Safety Climate and Risk Behavior: A Study in the Mining Sector

Yıl 2024, Cilt: 1 Sayı: 1, 1 - 14, 18.12.2024

Öz

Safety climate is defined as the employees' perceptions about the organization's practices and policies related to occupational safety. Safety climate is associated with organizational variables such as safety behavior, job satisfaction, and turnover. Safety climate is a key determinant of occupational accidents. This study investigated the relationship between safety climate and risk behavior, as well as the mediating role of organizational trust. Research data were collected by questionnaires and convenience sampling from 192 mine workers in 2018. Regression-based path analysis was performed to test the hypotheses. As a result of the study, it was determined that the safety climate affects risk behavior negatively and significantly. It was also found that organizational trust did not mediate the relationship between the safety climate and risk behavior.
