Validation Study of the Teacher and Student Assessment for Learning Questionnaires in Physical Education Context

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of Teacher and Student Assessment for Learning Questionnaires specifically adapted to the context of physical education classes. The participants of the study consisted of physical education teachers (n=136) and students attending (n=3390) public middle and high schools in five central districts across Turkey. The Turkish adaptations of the original Teacher and Student Assessment for Learning Questionnaires, designed for use across all subjects, were administered focusing solely on physical education lessons in this study. To determine the construct validity of the questionnaires, Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analyses were conducted. Internal consistency was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha coefficients. The results confirmed that both the teacher and student questionnaires retained their two-factor structure (monitoring and scaffolding), in line with the original questionnaires, when applied to the physical education context. Factor loadings were found to be adequate, and model fit indices met acceptable thresholds. The findings indicated that valid and reliable short forms of both questionnaires can be used to determine assessment for learning practices in physical education classes based on teacher and student perceptions.

Öğretmen ve Öğrenci Öğrenme için Değerlendirme Anketlerinin Beden Eğitimi Bağlamında Geçerlik Çalışması

Abstract

Bu çalışma, beden eğitimi dersleri bağlamına özel olarak uyarlanmış Öğretmen ve Öğrenci Öğrenme için Değerlendirme Anketlerinin psikometrik özelliklerini incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışmaya, Türkiye'nin beş merkezi ilindeki devlet ortaokul ve liselerinde görev yapan beden eğitimi öğretmenleri (n=136) ve bu okullara devam eden öğrenciler (n=3390) katılmıştır. Tüm derslerde kullanılmak üzere tasarlanan orijinal Öğretmen ve Öğrenci Öğrenme için Değerlendirme Anketlerinin Türkçe uyarlamaları, bu çalışmada yalnızca beden eğitimi derslerine odaklanılarak uygulanmıştır. Anketlerin yapı geçerliliğini belirlemek için Açımlayıcı ve Doğrulayıcı Faktör Analizleri yapılmıştır. İç tutarlılık Cronbach's alfa katsayıları kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Sonuçlar hem öğretmen hem de öğrenci anketlerinin, beden eğitimi bağlamında uygulandığında, orijinal anketlerle uyumlu olarak iki faktörlü yapılarını (izleme ve yönlendirici destek) korudukları doğrulanmıştır. Faktör yüklemelerinin yeterli olduğu ve model uyum indekslerinin kabul edilebilir eşikleri karşıladığı bulunmuştur. Bulgular, her iki anketin de geçerli ve güvenilir kısa formlarının, beden eğitimi derslerinde öğrenme için değerlendirme uygulamalarının, öğrenci ve öğretmen algılarına göre belirlenmesinde kullanılabileceğini göstermiştir.
