Validation Study of the Teacher and Student Assessment for Learning Questionnaires in Physical Education Context

Öz

This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of Teacher and Student Assessment for Learning Questionnaires specifically adapted to the context of physical education classes. The participants of the study consisted of physical education teachers (n=136) and students attending (n=3390) public middle and high schools in five central districts across Turkey. The Turkish adaptations of the original Teacher and Student Assessment for Learning Questionnaires, designed for use across all subjects, were administered focusing solely on physical education lessons in this study. To determine the construct validity of the questionnaires, Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analyses were conducted. Internal consistency was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha coefficients. The results confirmed that both the teacher and student questionnaires retained their two-factor structure (monitoring and scaffolding), in line with the original questionnaires, when applied to the physical education context. Factor loadings were found to be adequate, and model fit indices met acceptable thresholds. The findings indicated that valid and reliable short forms of both questionnaires can be used to determine assessment for learning practices in physical education classes based on teacher and student perceptions.
