DURKHEİM‘IN İNTİHAR YAKLAŞIMINA YÖNELİK ELEŞTİRİLER

Öz

Sosyolojinin kurucularından olan Durkheim’ın görüşleri sadece kendi dönemini etkilemekle kalmamış günümüzde de önemini korumuştur. Durkheim’ın anomi, intihar, toplumsal dayanışma ve toplumsal entegrasyon konularındaki görüşleri günümüz modern toplumlarını anlayabilmek açısından merkezi bir konuma sahiptir. Özellikle toplumsal bütünleşme konusu Durkheim’ ı din konusuna ulaştırmaktadır. Durkheim’a göre din, toplumsal bütünleşmenin en önemli anahtarıdır. Öte yandan toplumsal bütünleşmeye katılamayan veya diğer bazı sebeplerle intihara yönelen bireylerle ilgili de Durkheim’ın oldukça önemli görüşleri bulunmaktadır. Dinin bireylerin toplumsal bütünleşme süreçlerindeki rolü ve intihar eğilimlerini nasıl etkilediği konusu, yeterince derinlemesine ele alınmamış bir alan olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu çerçevede, Durkheim’ın din ve intihar ilişkisine dair görüşleri, hem bireylerin toplumsal bağlarının güçlendirilmesi hem de intiharın toplumsal bağlamda anlaşılması açısından önemli bir teorik çerçeve sunmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, Émile Durkheim’ın din ve intihar arasındaki ilişkiye dair görüşlerini inceleyerek, onun sosyolojisindeki dinin toplumsal bütünleşme üzerindeki etkisini ortaya koymaktır. Ayrıca yabancı literatürde Durkheim, din ve intihar ilişkisini inceleyen çalışmaların oldukça fazla olmasına rağmen, Türkçe literatürde Durkheim, din ve intihar ilişkisini inceleyen çalışmaların oldukça az olmasından dolayı çalışmanın literatürdeki önemli bir boşluğu dolduracağı ve din sosyolojisi alanına katkıda bulunacağı düşünülmektedir. Çalışmanın temel bulgusuna göre, Durkheim sosyolojisinde dinin önemi, hayata anlam ve değer katan ilkelerle bireysel ve toplumsal barışı ve bütünlüğü sağlaması böylece bireyleri intihar davranışından uzak tutabilmesinden gelmektedir. Bununla birlikte din ve intihar kavramlarının karşılıklı bir ilişkisi bulunduğu da çalışmanın bulguları arasındadır. Durkheim’a göre intihar, bireyin yalnızca kişisel bir kararı değil, zaman zaman inandığı dinle bütünleşmiş bir eylem olmaktadır. Fakat sosyal bir gerçeklik olarak dinin, Durkheim sosyolojisinde birincil konumda olmadığı anlaşılmaktadır.

CRITICISMS OF DURKHEIM’S APPROACH TO SUICIDE

Abstract

The views of Durkheim, one of the founders of sociology, not only influenced his period, but also preserved their importance today. Durkheim's views on anomie, suicide, social solidarity and social integration have a central position in understanding today's modern societies. Especially the subject of social integration brings Durkheim to the subject of religion. According to Durkheim, religion is the most important key to social integration. On the other hand, Durkheim has very important views on individuals who cannot participate in social integration or who commit suicide for some other reasons. From this point of view, Durkheim's perspective on the relationship between religion and suicide is discussed in this study. While analyzing Durkheim's views on religion and suicide, care was taken to use primary sources. In addition, although there are many studies examining the relationship between Durkheim, religion and suicide in foreign literature, it is thought that the study will fill an important gap in the literature and contribute to the field of sociology of religion, since there are very few studies examining the relationship between Durkheim, religion and suicide in Turkish literature. According to the main finding of the study, the importance of religion in Durkheim's sociology comes from the fact that it provides the integration of the society around them by ascribing objects or symbols as sacred, thus keeping individuals away from suicidal behavior. But religion as a social reality is not primary in Durkheim's sociology.
