IMPACT OF R&D EXPENDITURES OVER FIRM PROFITABILITY IN TURKEY

Öz

The aim of this study is to research whether there is a statistically significant relationship between R&D expenditures and firm profitability. In this study 66 manufacturing firms, listed Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE) between 2010 and 2013 and spending incessantly on R&D in relevant years, were analyzed. Also, Panel Least Squares regression method was used. In this context, a multiple regression model was established to measure the effect on Return Assets (ROA) of R&D expenditures. In the established multiple regression model R&D expenditures, leverage ratio and firm size variables were used as independent variables. As a result, it was determined that one year lagged R&D expenditures have positive and statistically significant effect on firm profitability. Also, it was seen that leverage ratio has negative effect on firm profitability.

TÜRKİYE’DE AR-GE HARCAMALARININ FİRMA KARLILIĞINA ETKİSİ

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Ar-Ge harcamaları ile firma karlılığı arasında istatistiksel olarak bir ilişki olup olmadığını araştırmaktır. Çalışmada, 2010-2013 yılları arasında Borsa İstanbul (BİST)’e kayıtlı olan ve ilgili yıllar arasında kesintisiz Ar-Ge harcaması yapan 66 imalatçı firma analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmada, regresyon yöntemlerinden Panel En Küçük Kareler Yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Bu bağlamda, Ar-Ge harcamalarının Aktiflerin Karlılığı (ROA) üzerindeki etkisini ölçmek için çoklu regresyon modeli kurulmuştur.
Kurulan çoklu regresyon modelinde bağımsız değişken olarak Ar-Ge Harcamaları, Kaldıraç Oranları ve Firma Büyüklüğü değişkenleri kullanılmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda, Türkiye’de Ar-Ge harcamalarının firma karlılığı üzerinde istatistiksel olarak pozitif yönlü ve anlamlı etkiye sahip olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bu etki bir yıl gecikmeli olarak gerçekleşmiştir. Ayrıca firmaların karlılığı üzerinde, kaldıraç oranı istatistiksel olarak negatif yönlü ve anlamlı bir etkiye sahip olduğunun sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
