Yüzyıl Sonra Sürrealizm: Sinemada Yeni Gerçeküstü Anlatılar

Abstract

Sürrealizm, Birinci Dünya Savaşı’nın yarattığı derin toplumsal travma ve rasyonalist ideolojilere duyulan güvensizlik ortamında, André Breton’un 1924 tarihli manifestosuyla teorik çerçevesini bulan devrimci bir sanat akımı olarak doğmuştur. Temellerini Sigmund Freud’un psikanaliz kuramlarından alan hareket, bilinçdışını, rüyaları ve saf psikolojik otomatizmi sanatsal yaratımın merkezine yerleştirerek hem bireysel hem de toplumsal özgürleşme projesi sunmuştur. Luis Buñuel ve Salvador Dalí'nin Endülüs Köpeği (1929) filmi, sinemanın rüya benzeri şok edici imgelerle izleyicinin bilinçdışına doğrudan ulaşma potansiyelini ortaya koyarak sürrealist sinemanın manifestosu haline gelmiştir. Akım, başlangıcındaki bu devrimci ve burjuva karşıtı kimliğiyle sanatı, toplumu dönüştürecek bir araç olarak konumlandırmıştır. 21. Yüzyıla gelindiğinde, sürrealizmin bu radikal potansiyelinin neoliberal kültür endüstrisi tarafından soğurulduğu görülmektedir. Bir zamanların yıkıcı imgeleri, günümüzde reklamcılıktan modaya, popüler kültürden sanat piyasasına kadar geniş bir alanda estetik bir tüketim nesnesine dönüşmüştür. Bu dönüşüme rağmen sürrealist estetik, sinemada gücünü ve geçerliliğini korumaktadır. Mulholland Yolu, Istakoz ve Ritüel gibi filmler, modern bireyin varoluşsal bunalımlarını, toplumsal yabancılaşmayı ve kimlik karmaşasını ifade etmek için sürrealizmin tekinsizlik, alegori ve rüya mantığı gibi araçlarını yeniden yorumlamaktadır. Bu makale, sürrealizmin tarihsel kökenlerinden başlayarak sinemadaki evrimini incelemekte, devrimci bir projeden metalaşmış bir estetiğe dönüşümünü ve çağdaş yönetmenler tarafından nasıl yeniden canlandırıldığını analiz etmektedir.

Surrealism One Hundred Years Later: New Surreal Narratives in Cinema

Abstract

Surrealism emerged as a revolutionary art movement, finding its theoretical framework in André Breton’s 1924 manifesto, amidst the profound social trauma caused by the First World War and a climate of distrust towards rationalist ideologies. Drawing its foundations from Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theories, the movement placed the unconscious, dreams and pure psychological automatism at the centre of artistic creation, thereby offering a project of both individual and social liberation. Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí’s film Un Chien Andalou (1929) demonstrated cinema’s potential to reach the viewer’s unconscious directly through dreamlike, shocking imagery, thereby becoming the manifesto of surrealist cinema. With its revolutionary and anti-bourgeois identity at its inception, the movement positioned art as a tool to transform society. By the 21st century, it is evident that this radical potential of surrealism has been co-opted by the neoliberal culture industry. The once-subversive imagery has now been transformed into an aesthetic object of consumption across a wide range of fields, from advertising to fashion, and from popular culture to the art market. Despite this transformation, the surrealist aesthetic retains its power and relevance in cinema. Films such as Mulholland Drive, The Lobster and The Ritual reinterpret surrealism’s tools such as uncanniness, allegory and the logic of dreams to express the existential crises, social alienation and identity confusion of the modern individual. This article examines the evolution of surrealism in cinema, beginning with its historical origins, analysing its transformation from a revolutionary project into a commodified aesthetic, and exploring how it has been revitalised by contemporary directors.
