Morphometry and Clinical Significance Hip Bone

Abstract

In our study, we aimed to examine os coxae morphometrically and reveal its clinical importance. In our study, 18 os coxae of unknown gender and age, located in the Anatomy Department Laboratory of Suleyman Demirel University Faculty of Medicine, were examined. Length of hip bone, maximum width of ilium, minimum width of ilium, ilium height, vertical diameter of acetabulum, anteroposterior diameter of acetabulum, width of acetabular notch, width of obturator foramen, height of obturator foramen, the distance between anterior inferior iliac spine and posterior inferior iliac spine, the distance between anterior inferior iliac spine and anterior superior iliac spine, the distance between posterior superior iliac spine and posterior inferior iliac spine, height of symphysial surface, width of symphysial surface parameters were measured with a digital caliper. The area of auricular surface and the area of facies symhysial surface were measured using Image J. The coxal index of all bones was calculated. The averages of the right side os coxae were higher in all parameters except maximum width of ilium, minimum width of ilium, the distance between anterior inferior iliac spine and posterior inferior iliac spine, area of auricular surface, area of sypmhysial surface and coxal index. Morphometry of hip bone is important in determining gender and planning various surgical procedures such as hysterectomy and arthroplasty. However, the number of studies that have made a comprehensive examination, as in our study on hip bone, is limited. Therefore, we think that our study will contribute to the limited literature.

Os Coxae’nın Morfometrisi ve Klinik Önemi

Abstract

Çalışmamızda os coxae’yı morfometrik olarak incelemeyi ve klinik olarak önemini ortaya koymayı amaçladık. Çalışmamızda Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Anatomi Ana Bilim Dalı Laboratuvarı’nda bulunan, cinsiyeti ve yaşı bilinmeyen 18 adet os coxae incelendi. Os coxae’nın uzunluğu, maximum ilium genişliği, minimum ilium genişliği, ilium yüksekliği, acetabulum’un vertikal çapı, acetabulum’un ön-arka çapı, incisura acetabuli genişliği, foramen obturatum genişliği, foramen obturatum yüksekliği, spina iliaca anterior inferior ile spina iliaca posterior inferior arasındaki mesafe, spina iliaca anterior inferior ile spina iliaca anterior superior arasındaki mesafe, spina iliaca posterior superior ile spina iliaca posterior inferior arasındaki mesafe, facies symphysialis yüksekliği, facies symphysialis genişliği parametreleri dijital kumpas ile ölçüldü. Facies auricularis’in alanı ve facies symhysialis’in alanı Image J üzerinden ölçüldü. Bütün kemiklerin coxal indeksi hesaplandı. Maximum ilium genişliği, minimum ilium genişliği, spina iliaca anterior inferior ile spina iliaca posterior inferior arasındaki mesafe, facies auricularis’in alanı, facies sypmhysialis’in alanı ve coxal indeks hariç diğer bütün parametrelerde sağ taraf os coxae’lara ait ortalamalar daha yüksekti. Os coxae’nın morfometrisi, cinsiyet belirlemede, histerektomi, artroplasti gibi çeşitli cerrahi prosedürlerin planlanmasında önem arz etmektedir. Buna karşın os coxae ile ilgili çalışmamızda olduğu gibi kapsamlı inceleme yapan çalışma sayısı kısıtlıdır. Bundan dolayı çalışmamızın kısıtlı olan literatüre katkı sağlayacağını düşünmekteyiz.
