Abstract
Objective: These factors are listed as main reasons in our
country where consanguineous marriages are common, births
begin at an early age and continue until the old ages, and
antenatal care remains below the targeted level.
Material-Method: Objective of this study was to determine
congenital anomalies in the universe of the children under five
years of age and to define the possible risk factors. Sample
size was calculated through INSTAT program and a total of
1140 children under five years of age who was living in rural
areas of Isparte were reached. The data were collected through
a questionnaire administered on a relative of the children and
by physical examination of the child and analyzed using Chisquare,
t-tests and logistic regression on the SPSS package
software.
Results: Prevalence of congenital anomalies was defined as
3,0% and frequency of disability as 1,4%. The most common
congenital anomaly was defined as undescended testis.
Variables related to congenital anomalies were defined as
being a boy (gender), working status of the mother, a problem
was said the baby has in the controls performed during
pregnancy, and a history of bruising after the birth.
Conclusion: In this study, prevalences of congenital
anomalies and related factors determined in only rural areas

performed in a wider areas
