The importance of dental assessment for identification

Abstract

The importance of dental assessment for identificationIdentification is one of the most important subject in Forensic Sciences. The determination of features thatrecognize a living person or a corpse from others is called identification. It can be done by examination ofbody, a tissue of body or signs. The identification is primary importance in cases the deceased person isdecomposed irrecognizable, burned or dismembered. Especially dental identification assumes an importantrole in the identification of corpse when postmortem changes have occured. Because the principal featureof dental evidence is that it is often preserved after death. Each dentist has a responsibility to know theforensic issues associated with his or her profession. Evaluation in the forensic field requires asist to legalauthorities, collection and maintain legible and legally acceptable dental records in the identification ofvictims and suspects. Because comparison of antemortem records and postmortem dental findings, is oneof the most effective, easy and accurate method to identify a corpse. In this article methods of dentalidentification and the importance of dental assessment in Forensic Medicine is presented

KİMLİKLENDİRMEDE DENTAL DEĞERLENDİRMENİN ÖNEMİ

Abstract

Kimliklendirme Adli Bilimlerin önemli konularýndan birini oluþturmaktadýr. Canlý ya da ölü bir kimseyi tanýma ve baþkalarýndan ayýrmaya yarayan özelliklerin tespit edilmesine kimliklendirme denir. Ölü veya canlý kimsenin muayenesi ile yapýlabildiði gibi insan vücuduna ait bir parçanýn, bir dokunun, iz ve belirtilerin incelenmesiyle de yapýlabilir. Kimliklendirme; tanýnamayacak derecede cesetlerin bozulduðu, yandýðý ya da parçalandýðý durumlarda birincil öneme sahiptir. Özellikle diþten kimliklendirme, ölüm sonrasý deðiþiklikler oluþtuðunda cesedin kimliklendirilmesinde önemli rol üstlenir. Çünkü diþlerin ölüm sonrasý kalýmlýlýklarý en önemli özellikleridir. Her diþ hekimi için mesleðiyle ilgili olan adli konularý bilme sorumluluðu vardýr. Adli alanda deðerlendirme, kurbanlarýn ve þüphelilerin belirlenmesinde yetkililere yardýmcý olunmasý, yasal olarak kabul edilebilir, okunabilir dental kayýtlarýn toplanmasýný ve korumasýný gerektirmektedir. Çünkü ölüm öncesi diþ kayýtlarý ile ölüm sonrasý diþ bulgularýnýn karþýlaþtýrýlmasý bir cesedin kimliðinin tespit edilmesinde en etkili, kolay ve doðru yöntemlerden biridir. Bu makalede dental kimliklendirme yöntemleri ve dental deðerlendirmenin Adli Týptaki önemi anlatýlmýþtýr.
