Abstract

Serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D and parathormon levels in patients with fibromyalgia

Recent studies reported that low vitamin D levels are related to nonspesific musculoskeletal symptoms. The aim of this study was to investigate the vitamin D and parathormon levels in premenopousal women with fibromyalgia and to compare with control group who are similar according to age, race, skin color, climate and latitute with the study group. The study group consists of 34 premenopausal women with fibromyalgia and the control group consists of 34 healty premenopausal women. Serum parathormon levels were found significantly higher in fibromyalgia group than the control group. Despite vitamin D levels were lower in fibromyalgia group this difference was not found statistically significant. We could not explain high level of parathormon in patients with fibromyalgia, so further studies are needed to investigate the role of parathormon in fibromyalgia.
