Abstract

Scleroderma; As a Rare Cause of Intestinal Obstruction: Report of a Case

Scleroderma is a systemic disease causing microvasculary injury and fibrosis accompanying with collagen deposits. Gastrointestinal system is the second most frequent involvement site after skin. Fibrotic changes of smooth muscles are the primary histopathological change in scleroderma. This is the primary cause of pseudo-obstruction. Abdominal pain, distention, nausea, vomiting, constipation, and fecal incontinence are frequent symptoms. Here we report a case of scleroderma with intestinal involvement.

Key words: Scleroderma, intestinal involvement, intestinal pseudo obstruction.
