Effect of Plant Activator and Microbial Fertilizer Applications on Yield and Some Physicochemical Parameters on Growing Carrots

Abstract

This study was carried out in a randomized complete blocks design with four replications during the growing seasons of 2010 and 2011 in order to determine the effects of microbial fertilizer and plant activator applications on carrot yield and some physicochemical parameters. ‘Maestro’carrot variety was used in this experiment and total yield, root weight, root diameter, root lenght, pH and TSS contents were studied. The highest root weight (95.6 g); total yield (7.17 t/da) and pH (6.64) were determined in Crop-Set application. At the end of the experiments, it was observed that root length ranged from 12.5 to 15.0 cm; average root diameter ranged from 25.6 to 28.5 mm; average total soluble solids content ranged from 10.2 to 10.8%. A positive and significant correlation was determined between root weight and root diameter (r=0.56). Total yield was positively and significantly correlated with root diameter (r=0.57) and root weight (r=0.99). Also, total soluble solids was negative and significantly associated with pH (r=-0.33).
