Investigation of Potential of the Olive-Pomace Oil for Biodiesel Production

Abstract

Increasing energy needs all over the world made countries to search new energy sources which should less polluting and could produce in the local facilities. In our country, economic data in 2012 shows that 50 % of the account deficit is from petroleum (crude oil) purchases. The annual cost of crude oil obtained from abroad is around 50 billion dollar. Therefore, it is important to have new and renewable energy sources which should have potential for lowering the energy demand for the crude oil. Olive production with its side industry branches is a large agricultural sector which contributes to our country’s economy. Olive pomaces are produced from olive during the production of olive oil and then olive pomace again extracted for any leftover oil which is called crude olivepomace oil. This study investigates potential of olive-pomace oil for the production of biodiesel as a new energy sources for our country.
