The Estimation with Canonical Correlation Analysis of Relationships between Physical and Chemical Properties in Entisol and Inceptisol Soils

Abstract

Canonical correlation analysis (CCA) is one of the most general of the multivariate techniques that is used to investigate the overall correlation between two sets of variables. In this study, the relationships between the physical and chemical properties in Entisol and Inceptisol soils in Amasya Gökhöyük State Farm using CCA have been investigated. While the physical variable group included soil physical properties such as sand content, silt content, bulk density, saturated hydraulic conductivity, field capacity and permanent wilting point, the chemical variable group included the chemical soil properties such as pH, electrical conductivity, organic matter, CaCO3 content, total nitrogen, available phosphorus and exchangeable potassium. First three of estimated five different canonical correlation coefficients (CCC) between the pairs of canonical variables in both Entisol and Inceptisol soils were found significant. While the coefficient of highest canonical correlation which is significantly important for Entisol soils was determined as 0.978, the highest canonical correlation for Inceptisol soils was 0.957. According to CCA, while saturated hydraulic conductivity and pH had largest contribution for the explanatory capacity of canonical variables for Entisol soils, sand content and pH had largest contribution for the explanatory capacity of canonical variables for Inceptisol soils.
