The Effects of Different Gamma-Ray Doses on Seedling growth of Bread Wheats

Abstract

In this study, the effects of seven gamma dozes on emergence rate (%), seedling height (cm), root length (cm) and seedling dry weight (gr) in seeds of two bread wheat cultivars were investigated. It was determined that emergence rate, shoot length, root length and seedling dry weight were affected negatively from increasing gamma rays and decreases in characters versus increasing gamma rays were determined as linear. On the other hand, optimum doses for ED50 was found as 250 Gy for Kirik cultivars and 200 Gy for Sönmez cultivars. Powerful variations in breeding programs could be made by applying optimum dose of gamma rays creating ED50.
