The Effect of Mill Type, Degree of Grinding and Mixing Time in Mixed Feed Production on the Performance of Broiler Chicks

Abstract

In this research it was purposed to determine effects of the corn and wheat which commonly used in broiler diets (average 65% in diets) in different particle sizes (fine or coarse) by roller and hammer mills, and different mixing times (2 and 5 minutes) on broiler fattening performance. It was also determined some performance criterions of the mill types during maize and wheat were milled by roller and hammer mills. Totally 256- day old broiler chicks were fed mash diets with isocaloric and isonitrogenic throughout the 42 day. In conclusion, it was observed roller mills consume energy more efficiently than hammer mills. Besides, different particle size reducing levels (fine or coarse) change the values of specific energy consumption were changed by mill type and particle size. When the performance of broilers were looked over, the results reveal that mill type, degree of grinding and mixing time had no significant effect on live weight, but feed consumption and feed conversion rate were affected by depending on mill type and particle size.
