The Effects of Postharvest 1-Methylcyclopropene Applications on Fruit Quality of Melons (Cucumis melo L. cv. Dellteks F1) Stored at Different Temperatures

Abstract

In this research; the effects of 1- MCP (SmartfreshTM) postharvest applications at different
storage temperatures on “Dellteks F1” cantaloupe melon variety were investigated. For this purpose,
1-Methylcyclopropene was applicated at two different doses to melon fruits, harvested from
Çanakkale- Kumkale province and one group of fruits were stored at 4± 0.5°C temperature and 90-
95% relative humidity, the other group of fruits were stored at 20 ±1°C temperature and 55%- 60%
relative humidity conditions for 3 weeks. Some quality parameters were evaluated after harvest and
storage period such as weight loss, fruit firmness, soluble solids contents and titratable acidity. In
addition, the rate of decay resulting from microbial and bacterial was observed. According to the
results, the parameters such as fruit firmness, weight loss, soluble solids contents and the rate of
decay, at 4± 0.5°C temperature and 90%- 95% relative humidity conditions after 1- MCP applications
affected “Dellteks F1” melon quality positively.

Hasat Sonrası 1-Methylcyclopropane Uygulamalarının Farklı Sıcaklık Derecelerinde Depolanan Kavunlarda (Cucumis Melo L. Cv. Dellteks F1) Meyve Kalitesi Üzerine Olan Etkileri

Abstract

Bu çalışmada; Çanakkale yöresinde yetiştirilen “Dellteks F1” hibrit çeşit kantolop kavunlarda,
hasat sonrası 1-MCP (SmartfreshTM) uygulamalarının farklı depolama sıcaklıklarında etkileri
incelenmiştir. Bu amaçla, Çanakkale Kumkale bölgesinden hasat edilen kavun meyvelerinde iki farklı
dozda 1-Methylcyclopropene uygulaması yapılmış ve meyvelerin bir kısmı 4± 0,5°C sıcaklık ile %90-
95 oransal nem koşullarında, diğer kısmı ise 20±1°C sıcaklık ile %55- 60 oransal nem koşullarında 3
hafta süreyle depolanmışlardır. Meyvelerde, hasat yapıldıktan sonra ve uygulama sonrası depolama
bitiminde meyve kalitesini ifade eden bazı ölçümler yapılmıştır. Bu ölçümler; ağırlık kaybı, meyve eti
sertliği, suda çözünür kuru madde oranı ve titre edilebilir toplam asitlik miktarı olmuştur. Ayrıca
mikrobiyel veya bakteriyel etmenlerden ileri gelen bozulmaların oranı gözlemsel olarak saptanmıştır.
Elde edilen sonuçlara göre; meyve eti sertliği, ağırlık kaybı, bozulma oranı ve suda çözünür kuru
madde oranı gibi parametreler açısından, 4± 0,5°C sıcaklık ile %90- 95 oransal nem koşullarında 1-
MCP uygulamaları “Dellteks F1” kavununun kalitesi üzerine olumlu etkilerde bulunmuştur.
