Year 2022, , 30 - 34, 27.04.2022
https://doi.org/10.15311/selcukdentj.870046

Abstract

Examination of Dentists' Knowledge and Stress Level About COVID-19

Year 2022, , 30 - 34, 27.04.2022
https://doi.org/10.15311/selcukdentj.870046

Abstract

Background: 2019-nCoV is mainly transmitted by the inhalation of droplets emitted by sick individuals through speech, coughing and sneezing. In this study, it is aimed to examine the knowledge and stress levels of dentists who perform dental treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic process about the COVID-19 epidemic.
Methods: In our study, a questionnaire containing information and stress levels on the COVID-19 epidemic was sent to physicians online. Survey form; democratic information, COVID-19 exposure, the use of ruber-dam in procedures that require aerosol, the level of knowledge about COVID-19 disease, and the stress situation. The relationship between physicians' gender, age, education level and the institution they work with and their knowledge and stress levels on COVID-19 were evaluated using the Pearson Chi-Square test (p <0.05).
Results: In our study, 8.9% of dentists stated that they had COVID-19 disease. It was observed that the rate of use of rubber-dam was 17.4% during dental procedures that generate aerosol. Physicians' level of knowledge about COVID-19 did not differ significantly according to gender, age, education level and the institution they worked for (p <0.05). While dentists stated that they did not feel any stress in terms of getting COVID-19 disease at a rate of 5.8% during dental treatments, 94.2% stated that they felt stress at different rates.
Conclusion: It has been observed that dentists have a high level of knowledge about COVID-19. However, it was observed that they were stressed about getting COVID-19 disease during dental treatment due to close contact with patients.
