The Determination of Yield and Some Yield Components of Sorghum-Sudangrass Hybrid Cultivars for Silage Production in Konya Ecological Conditions

Abstract

This research was conducted with five sorghum-sudangrass hybrid cultivars (Elrey,Grass,Grazer,Jumbo and Sweet) at Animal Research Institute of Konya in 2000. Obtained data as average of two cutting summarised as follows; plant heights were 215.53 cm (Sweet)-231.02 cm (Jumbo); plant fresh weights were 495.6 g (Elrey) to 674.5 g (Sweet); stem diameters were 0.99 cm (Elrey)-1.39 cm (Jumbo); stalk weights were 406.8 g (Elrey) to 537.0 g (Sweet); stalk ratios were 74.7% (Jum-bo)-82.0% (Elrey); leaf weights were 88.7 g (Elrey) to 153.0 g (Jumbo); leaf ratios were15.5% (Grazer)-25.2% (Jumbo); dry matter ratios were 27.73% (Sweet) to 34.55% (Elrey). As total of two cutting green forage yields were 146410 kg.ha-1 (Grass) to 190380 kg.ha-1 (Jumbo) and dry matter yields were 44860 kg.ha-1 (Grass) to 57450 kg.ha-1 (Jumbo). According to results of one-year; Jumbo and Sweet c.v. can be shown to be suitable varieties as silage production with respect to yield and other observed characters in Konya Province and similiar ecologies.
