The Determination of Growing Possibilities of Sorghum-Sudangrass Cultivars as Second Crop Under Karaman Ecolojical Conditions

Abstract

This research was carried out with the intent of determining the growing possibilities of sorghum sudangrass cultivars as second crop after the main crop (barley). The experiment was designed with “Randomized Complete Blocks” with 3 replica-tions and conducted in the Karaman Province Directorate Nursery. In this study, four cultivars of sorghum sudangrass hy-brids (Grazer, El Rey, Grass II, Jumbo) were used as experiment materials. In the research, the grass yields of sorghum sudangrass cultivars were 6483.73 kg/da (Grazer) - 7671.23 kg/da (Jumbo), dry matter yields were 2093.50 kg/da (Grazer) - 2321.00 kg/da (Jumbo), crude protein rates were %4.41 (Grazer) - %5.15 (El Rey) and crude protein yields were 93.53 kg/da (Grazer) - 113.00 kg/da (El Rey) respectively. In the study, although “Jumbo” cultivar came to the fore, all tested sorgum-sudangrass cultivars in the experiment are considered to be grown as second crop under Karaman ecological conditions, because there was no found statistical difference on grass yield and dry matter yield among varieties.
