Vertical Distribution of Aphid Species on Wheat in Konya Province

Abstract

Vertical distribution of Sitobion avenae (F.), Diuraphis noxia (Kurdjumov) and Sipha (Rungsia) elegans Del Guercio, common cereal aphid species in Konya province of Turkey, were weekly observed in the study carried out during 1989-1990 in five localities of the province. All of three species firstly occurred on leaves, but S. avenae preferred ears after beginning of flowering period, and D. noxia and S. (Rungsia) elegans clearly preferred leaves. Leaf preference of S. (Rungsia) elegans was stronger than D. noxia. It is also observed that D. noxia feeds on young leaves while S. (Rungsia) elegans chooses old leaves as feeding site.
