Estimation of Soil Compaction by Wheel Traffic from Some Soil Properties

Abstract

The aim of this experimental study was to estimate soil compaction by wheel traffic by using some so I properties. The soil surface compacted by a tirewheel tractor, once, twice and four times. The soil was sandy loam and its water content was approximately field capacity. Penetration re Istance and some soil properties were measured in the soil profile in order to determine their interactions. The res Its showed that a positive relationship between penetration resistance and bulk density, and negative relationships between penetration resistance and total porosity, void ratio, larger than 50 µm and 50-8.6 µm existed. Correlation cofficients of those relationships were 0.874**, -0.850**, -0.856**, -0.852** and -0.708**; respectively.
