The Effects of Different Sowing Dates and Nitrogen Doses on Yield, Yield Components and Quality of Hybrid Dent Corn (Zea mays L. indendata S.)

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the effects of different sowing dates and nitrogen doses on yield, yield components, quality of hybrid dent corn in Konya International Bahri Dağdaş Winter Wheat Research Institute under irrigation conditions in 1994. In the research which was aranged to split plot experimental design with three replications, the sowing dates (7 April, 20 April, 10 May and 30 May) and nitrogen doses (0, 5 kg N/da, 10 kg N/da, 15 kg N/da and 20 kg N/da) were placed randomizely in to main plots and subplots respectively. Maximum grain yield was obtained in plots applied 20 April sowing date with 829 kg/da. At the same research, maximum grain yield was obtained in plots given 15 kg/da N with 813 kg/da as average. Generally the delayed sowing dates to 10 May and the increased nitrogen doses increased ear length, grain number and weight per ear. The sowing later 10 May decreased these characters. Plant height and grain protein rate weren't effected by sowing dates, but effected positively by increased nitrogen doses. Grain moisture in harvest increased with latered sowing dates.
