Quality and Yield of Sugar Beet as Affected by Various Composed Fertilisers

Abstract

Trials were established to determine a basic fertiliser composition for optimum quality and yield of sugar beet in four locations of Konya Plain during two consecutive years in 1998 and 1999. Field experiments were designed according to the factorial design of randomised complete blocks. In the first year, DAP (G1); 12:30:12 (G2); 15:15:15 (G3); 20:20:0 (G4); 10:25:0.12.0 (G5) (%10 N, %25 P2O5, %20 K2O, %4 Zn, %8 B, %40 B); TSP (G7); liquid ammonium polyphosphate (G6) (%9 N, %26 P2O5); liquid zinc and boron added ammonium polyphosphate (G9) (%9 N, %19 P2O5, %4 Zn, %4 B) and in the second year six out of the fertilisers used in the first year were used as the basic fertilisers. All fertiliser were applied onto the soil before sowing to supply 100 kg ha⁻¹ P₂O₅. In 1998, G5 resulted in higher root yield increase between 8.2%–15.2% (mean 11.6%) compared to other fertiliser compositions followed by G2, G7, G6, G9, G4, G8, G3, and G1 in decreasing order. However, G6 was the best composition in 1999 which has resulted in root yield increases between 3.7%–9.4% (mean 6.7%) followed by, in decreasing order, G5, G2, G4, G3, and G1. Fertiliser compositions were not found to affect sugar content in any year.
