THE USE OF AUTOLOGOUS BLOOD PRODUCTS IN TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT DISORDERS

Abstract

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders are a multifactorial group of conditions that adversely affect essential functions such as chewing, speaking, and swallowing, thereby negatively impacting quality of life. Conventional treatment methods are limited and mainly provide symptomatic relief. Consequently, interest in biological agents, such as autologous blood products, has increased in recent years. This review examines the effectiveness of autologous blood products, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP), platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), and injectable PRF (I-PRF), in the treatment of TMJ disorders. Clinical studies have shown that the use of autologous blood products in the TMJ plays an effective role in reducing inflammation, improving jaw function, and controlling pain. It has been demonstrated that autologous blood products are effective as an alternative therapeutic option, both when used alone and in combination with procedures such as arthrocentesis.

TEMPOROMANDİBULAR EKLEM HASTALIKLARINDA OTOLOG KAN ÜRÜNLERİNİN KULLANIMI

Abstract

Temporomandibular eklem (TME) rahatsızlıkları, çiğneme, konuşma ve yutma gibi temel fonksiyonları olumsuz etkileyen, multifaktöriyel bir rahatsızlık grubu olup yaşam kalitesini olumsuz etkileyen yaygın bir problemdir. Geleneksel tedavi yöntemleri sınırlı olup semptomatik rahatlama sağlamaktadır. Bu nedenle son yıllarda otolog kan ürünleri gibi biyolojik ajanlara olan ilgi artmıştır. Bu derlemede, trombositten zengin plazma (PRP), trombositten zengin fibrin (PRF) ve enjekte edilebilir PRF (I-PRF) gibi otolog kan ürünlerinin TME rahatsızlıklarının tedavisindeki etkinliği incelenmiştir. Yapılan klinik çalışmalarda otolog kan ürünlerinin temporomandibular eklemde kullanımının enflamasyonun azalmasında, çene fonksiyonlarının iyileşmesinde ve ağrının kontrol altına alınmasında etkin rol oynadığı ortaya konulmuştur. Otolog kan ürünlerinin hem tek başına hem de artrosentez gibi yöntemlerle birlikte kullanımının etkili bir alternatif yöntem olduğu gösterilmiştir.
