URSULA BİEMANN İLE VİDEO İŞLERİ ÜZERİNE SÖYLEŞİ: DEKOLONYALİZM, İKLİM KRİZİ, İNSAN-SONRASI VE VİDEOCOĞRAFYA

Abstract

Pratik temelli bir araştırmaya dayanan Ursula Biemann, yerel, küresel ve gezegensel bağlamlarda siyaset ve çevrenin birbiriyle bağlantısını ele alan video denemeleri ve metinler üretiyor. İsviçre'nin Zürih kentinde yaşayan Biemann'ın araştırmaları, Grönland'dan Amazon'a kadar uzak bölgelerde iklim değişikliği ile petrol ve su ekolojilerini incelediği saha çalışmalarını içeriyor. Son saha araştırması onu, video arşivleri, sergiler ve deveniruniversidad.org çevrimiçi platformunu oluşturduğu biyokültürel bilgi için yerli bir üniversitenin ortak yaratımına dahil olduğu Güney Kolombiya'ya götürdü. En yeni video çalışması Forest Mind, batı ve yerli bilgi sistemleri arasında köprü kuran bu bağlamdan ortaya çıkmıştır. Çok yönlü bir sanatçı olan Bieman, bu söyleşide video denemelerinin dayandığı çok sayıdaki düşünsel temelleri anlatıyor ve bizleri, eserleri aracılığıyla insana, gezegene, doğaya ve bilime dair farklı bilme ve görme yolları üzerinde düşünmeye davet ediyor.

AN INTERVIEW WITH URSULA BIEMANN ON HER VIDEO WORKS: DECOLONIALISM, THE POSTHUMAN, AND VIDEOGEOGRAPHY

Abstract

Grounded in a research-based practice, Ursula Biemann creates video essays and texts that address the interconnection between politics and the environment across local, global, and planetary contexts. Biemann is based in Zurich, Switzerland, but her research involves fieldwork in remote locations from Greenland to Amazonia, where she investigates climate change and the ecologies of oil and water. Her latest field research took her to southern Colombia, where she is involved in the co-creation of an indigenous university for biocultural knowledge for which she generates video archives, exhibitions, and the online platform deveniruniversidad.org. Her newest video work, Forest Mind, emerges from this context of bridging Western and indigenous knowledge systems. In this interview, Biemann, a multifaceted artist, explains the many intellectual foundations of her video essays and invites us to reflect on different ways of knowing and seeing human beings, the planet, nature, and science through her artwork.
