Bier spots: White extremity macules in a healthy young adult

Abstract

Bier spots are usually characterized by asymptomatic, irregularly shaped hypopigmented macules on extremities. Clinical diagnosis is simple when macules disappear by application of pressure to surrounding skin on diascopy or elevation of the extremities. Although it is usually idiopathic, secondary causes such as pregnancy, cryoglobulinemia, hyperhidrosis are reported. Secondary causes should be ruled out in suspicious cases of Bier spots which is in differential diagnosis of hypopigmented macules. We herein report a health male patient who presented with white extremity macules.

Sağlıklı genç erişkin hastada beyaz ekstremite makülleri: Bier lekeleri

Abstract

Bier lekeleri klinikte sıklıkla ekstremitelerde asemptomatik düzensiz hipopigmente maküllerle seyreder. Klinik tanı çevre deriye uygulanan diaskopik basınçla ya da ekstremite elevasyonu ile lezyonların kaybolması ile kolayca konur. Çoğunlukla idyopatik olan bu tablo gebelik, kriyoglobulinemi, hiperhidroz gibi çeşitli sekonder nedenlerle birlikte bildirilmiştir. Hipopigmente maküllerin ayırıcı tanısına giren bu tabloda şüpheli durumlarda sekonder nedenler dışlanmalıdır. Burada ekstremitelerinde beyaz lekelerle başvuran sağlıklı genç erkek bir hasta sunulmuştur.
