Mad honey poisoning accompanied by hypotension and bradycardia

Abstract

The honey which is produced in the Blacksea Region of Turkey,also known as the 'mad honey', includes a toxin which was named Andromedotoxin. The toxin causes not only gastrointestinal but also cardiovascular side effects. This toxin (Andrometoxin) is derived from R.Luteum and R. Panticum which are the two members of Rhododendron plant family. In this study, we aimed to present a patient with typical poisoning findings after consuming mad honey.

Hipotansiyon ve bradikardi etiyolojisinde deli bal zehirlenmesi

Abstract

Ülkemizde genel olarak Karadeniz bölgesinde üretilen ve deli bal olarak bilinen balda bulunan Grayanotoxin (Andromedotoxin) adlı toksinin, gastrointestinal sistem yan etkilerinin yanında kardiyovasküler sistem yan etkilerinin olduğu da bilinmektedir. Bu toksin Rhododendron cinsi bitkilerin iki üyesi olan R. Luteum ve R. Panticumdan üretilmektedir. Bu çalısmada, Karadeniz Bölgesinde üretilen balı yedikten sonra tipik zehirlenme bulguları ile klinigimize basvuran bir hastayı sunmayı amaçladık.
