Socioinformatics: The Intersection of the Social Sciences with Artificial Intelligence and Data Science

Socioinformatics is a peer-reviewed, Diamond open-access journal that examines the two-way relationship between society and computation: how artificial intelligence and data engineering reshape social life, and how social structures, values, and power relations shape these technologies in turn.

The journal builds on the traditions of social informatics while reorienting them toward the era of large language models, generative AI, and large-scale data infrastructures. Every article it publishes rests on a social-scientific question, theory, or method; artificial intelligence and data appear either as the object of inquiry or as an analytical instrument, never as an end in themselves — work reporting only technical performance falls outside its scope.

Socioinformatics welcomes theoretical, empirical, and methodological contributions across thirteen strategic areas, from communication, disaster, and health to sociology, psychology, and political science. It gives particular attention to empirical cases, low-resource languages, and Global South contexts that remain under-represented in the international literature.

Socioinformatics is published by Ankara University twice a year, in June and December, under editor-in-chief Assoc. Prof. Dr. Savaş Takan. The journal publishes in English, charges no fees to authors or readers, and makes all content openly available under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) licence.
