The Relationship Between Cognitive Flexibility and Adaptive Performance in Hotel Businesses

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between cognitive flexibility and adaptive performance in hotel businesses. The research was conducted with 495 employees working in four- and five-star hotels in Istanbul using a quantitative approach and purposive sampling. Data were collected through face-to-face surveys and analysed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analyses. The findings revealed a strong and significant relationship between cognitive flexibility and adaptive performance. Cognitive flexibility was positively associated with emergency adaptation, interpersonal adaptation, creativity, and training efforts, and significantly predicted adaptive performance and its dimensions. These results suggest that hotel managers should support employees’ cognitive flexibility through training and human resource practices to enhance adaptation to changing environmental conditions.
