In Contemporary Turkish Operas a Different Taste “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves Opera”
Abstract
Although brilliant and flashy, Opera is a branch of art which people approach prejudicially. Some may think that watching an opera play is the most boring thing to do. Easiest way to get rid of these thoughts is through increasing the number of productions which includes our traditional culture in terms of music, dance, scene and theme. Not only this will help to development of Turkish opera but also will increase the number of opera audience eliminating the prejudices. Among the Turkish Operas, having these properties the opera Alibaba ve Kırk Haramiler constitutes the main text of the essay. In this essay, The Opera Alibaba ve Kırkharamiler is analyzed mostly musically. Other traditional items it contains are investigated and findings are discussed and concluded.
