An overview to floor mosaic of Otranto Cathedral

Abstract

Mosaics located inside the cathedral of Otranto which is located in the southern Italy ais important because it describes different issues of the history of humanity together. It is the only mosaic explaining in a unity the different events in different geographies. Tree is defined as a family tree of humanity. All descriptions are placed between the branches and on the branches of tree. Very important historical subjects such as Alexander the Great, mythological animals, Adam and Eve, Noah’Ark, the Tower of Babel are depicted on the mosaic.

OTRANTO KATEDRALİ TABAN MOZAİĞİNE BİR BAKIŞ

Abstract

İtalya’nın güneyinde Otranto kent merkezinde yer alan Katedralin içinde yer alan mozaikler insanlık tarihinden bir çok farklı konuyu bir arada betimlediği için önemlidir. Farklı coğrafyalarda birbirinden farklı olarak yaşanan olayları bir bütünlük içinde anlatan tek taban mozaiğidir. Ağaç insanlığın soy ağacı olarak tanımlanmış, bütün betimlemeler ağaç dalları üzerinde ve dalların aralarına yerleştirilmiştir. Büyük İskender, mitolojik hayvanlar, Adem ile Havva, Nuh un Gemisi, Babil Kulesi gibi bir çok önemli tarihi konu mozaik üzerinde tasvir edilmiştir.
