Abstract
Based on the assumption that there is an organic relationship between modernity and capitalism, this article aims to reveal that sociology functions as a self-reflexive functioning of capitalism as part of the metropolitan analysis of George Simmel, who is famous as the sociologist of modernity. Related to this, within the framework of the following questions, it is aimed to open sociological knowledge to the examination; does sociological knowledge mean only a theoretical consideration of the social? Or is it used functionally at the same time for manipulation, control and domination of the social? The contemporary world seems very contradictiory to ethos of modernity. Concersns about modernity have deepened to a level imposible to overcome. Criticism and even expectations of its end about capitalism have made capitalism more widespread, more subtle and penetrating. The contemporary world displays the appearance that capitalism has achieved an absolute victory. Could these criticisms have contributed positively to capitalism's attainment of this level? We believe that such relationship can exist between sociology and capitalism and sociology is used functionally in the construction of the global world.
