To be able to find out the circumstances and the
limits of human sacrifice, first the perspectives of the ancient authors need
to be clarified specifically. Human sacrifice theme’s never been a common
ritual type in Greek mythology or Greek culture. Human sacrifice’s been an
extraordinary way of a solution under the causes such as hopelessness of a
society, god, king etc. In this article, we are going to focus on the grounds
which permit human sacrifice under the conscience of mythology. Therefore the
myths about Iphigenia, Hesione, Andromeda and Polyxene will be examined and
compared. In accordance with this purpose, the future determined conclusions
will be supported by the selected archaeological evidences. With the final
conclusion of this study, one can argue that femininity was always caught in
the middle between mother nature and patriarchy. Therefore, we believe that was
the secret iconography of human sacrifice in Greek Mythology.
