Abstract
Karanfil is a novel which is published in 2013, deals with the Nagorno-Karabakh War between Azerbaijan and Armenia, which was waged from 1988 to 1994. The novel is written by retired General Osman Gazi Kandemir. The focus of the author is on the year 1992, when the armed struggle between the defenders of the centuries-long Azeri homeland and Armenian invaders reached its peak. By synthesizing the historical realities with a successful plot, Karanfil is both a superb work of military novel genre and an important novel that carries the Nagorno-Karabakh War to Turkish literature. The novel based on Azerbaijan Turks’ experiences is also important in terms of embodying the meaning of devotion to the homeland by attracting attention to the importance of living in a sovereign homeland. Osman Gazi Kandemir, through his novel which includes historical facts, aimed to keep collective memory alive by putting readers in mind of the recent disaster of Azerbaijani Turks.
