Öz
Objective:
The aim of this study is to define burnout and job satisfaction levels of special education teachers who work in public
and private educational institutions in province of Isparta.
Study Design:
Individuals, working in private and public educational institutions in province of Isparta in 2009, constitute the
scope of this cross-sectional study. Research group’s data has been collected by using the questionnaire of socio-demographic
characteristics and Maslach Burnout Inventory and Hackman’s Job Satisfaction Scale. Research data was evaluated with the
statistical program named SPSS 9.0. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, two independent groups, test, variance analysis,
Pearson and Spearman correlation tests were used in analysis process of the data and linear regression analysis were imple

mented.
Results:
In the further analysis; support from colleagues, being appreciated by the directors, satisfaction with income and
occupational status in the society were found out as job-satisfaction-increasing elements. Factors such as old age, regarding
his occupation appropriate for himself, desire to prefer the same occupation if he had another option and the possibility of
occupational progress and promotion were found out as emotional burnout reducing factors.
Conclusion:
Some precautions should be taken to provide a longer and more efficient working life for professionals working
with people with disabilities, thus preventing burnout and increasing job satisfaction
