THE EFFECTS OF POLYPHENOLS ON HEALT AND ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE

Abstract

In recent years, researches state that the health benefits of polyphenols also play an important role in sports. The polyphenols, also known as antioxidants, can be found in many natural plants which make them easy to access. Because of anticarcinogenic feature of polyphenols, many people follow polyphenol-rich diets for cancer prevention . While, polyghenols in green and red vegetables prevent heart attack it also improve quality of life. In sports, polyphenol stops exercise induced muscle damage by preventing oxidative stress.In addition, the quercetin component of polyphenol has an affect in athletic performance, especially in short term trainings as 7 to14 days trainings. While quersetin prevents histamine in cells it also increases metabolism. Hence, it helps to increase the activatation of fats in the body. Therefore, it is determined that quersetin used in training also effects the body in many ways. While, polyphenol stops exercise induced muscle damage by preventing oxidative stress during intensive exercise, it also speeds recovery after.

POLİFENOLLERİN SAĞLIK VE SPOR PERFORMANSINA ETKİLERİ

Abstract

Son yıllarda sağlık açısından çok önemli olarak bilinen polifenollerin spor açısından da aslında çok büyük bir rol oynadığı bildirilmiştir. Antioksidan olarak bilinen bu polifenollerin doğada yenebilir türde birçok yiyecekte bulunuyor olması bizlerin onlara kolayca ulaşabilmemizi sağlamaktadır. Günümüzün en bilinen hastalığı olarak adlandırılan kansere karşı içinde bulundurduğu antikanserojen maddeleri bizleri daha çok polifenol yapı tüketmeye yöneltmektedir. Sağlık açısından birçok yeşil yapraklı bitki ve kırmızı renkli meyvelerde bulunan polifenol yapıları kalp krizlerini önlerken daha kaliteli bir yaşam sunmaktadır.
Spor alanında ise oksidatif stresi önlemesiyle kaslarda oluşabilecek hasarı durduruyorken polifenolin bir maddesi olan kuersetinlerin antrenmanları etkilediği de saptanmıştır fakat bu antrenmanlarda 7 ile 14 gün arasında olan kısa süreli antrenmanlara oldukça büyük etkisi olduğu saptanmıştır. Kuersetin; bağışıklık hücrelerinde histaminin açığa çıkmasının engellemekte, aynı zamanda metabolizmayı da hızlandırmaktadır. Böylece vücudumuzdaki yağların aktivitasyonunu artırmaktadır. Bu yüzden antrenmanlarda kullanılması tercih edilen kuersetinler aslında vücudu birçok yönden etkilediği saptanmıştır.
Egzersiz yoğunluğuyla kaslarda oluşan oksidatif strese karşı da önemli rol oynayan polifenol alımı ile kas hasarı en aza indirgenirken, diğer yandan bir sonraki antrenman için ise toparlanmayı hızlandırmaktadır.
