Abstract

EXERCISE APPROACHES AFTER ANKLE SPRAINS: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF CLINICAL AND RANDOMISED CONTROLLED TRIALS

Year 2021, , 43 - 56, 30.12.2021
https://doi.org/10.33689/spormetre.951934

Abstract

Sprains are the most common type of ankle injuries, especially for the athletic population. For this reason, ankle sprains, which are sometimes considered in different types, constitute one of the important issues of exercise science with the sustainability and economic aspect of both the healthy life of the individuals and the professional life of the athletes. The objective of this study is to make a systematic review of the literature examining the effect of therapeutic exercise on ankle sprains. The study findings, which were carried out according to the general scanning model and by systematic compilation of the relevant literature, were revealed by searching the articles published in English between January 2010 and April 2021 in Medline, Pubmed and Web of Science databases for the keywords "ankle sprain" and "exercise". The study was also supplemented with additional literature to support the conceptual framework. In this systemic review, it is understood that sedentery individuals have been the subject of more studies and it has been revealed that exercise following ankle sprains has a positive effect on improving neuromuscular control and injury findings. In this systematic review, it is seen that exercise following ankle sprains contributes to improving neuromuscular control and has a positive effect on the patient after injury. In addition, it is understood that sedentary individuals are more subject to research than athletes. Exercise is an application that should be included in the treatment and rehabilitation process after ankle sprains.
