YELKEN SPORCUSUNUN YARIŞ PERFORMANSINI ARTTIRMAYA YÖNELİK NAVİGASYON SİSTEMİ ARAYÜZLERİNİN DİZİLİMİ ÜZERİNE BİR İNCELEME

Abstract

AN ANALYSIS ON NAVIGATION SYSTEM INTERFACES USED FOR IMPROVING THE RACE PERFORMANCE OF YACHT CREW

Year 2011, Volume: 9 Issue: 1, 25 - 32, 01.04.2011

Abstract

Sailing boats are affected by external conditions like sea and wind. In this field, considerable research is conducted on yacht body, mast, and sail design, navigation systems which track the mentioned conditions and provide the boat a cruise under ideal circumstances are passing through a significant development process in the recent 10 years. However there is a lack of literature in the field of interface design for navigation systems. Impeding conditions which restrict the movements and perception of the person to use the navigation system occur on the boat, under sail, and especially during a limiting occasion like racing. This article is about our studies on interface design which provides the sailing racer a better perception of the complex and variable data. For the solution of the problem we assumed that an interface is reflected on the glasses the tactician wears and with this, the tactician can follow environmental information, interpret the information, and direct the boat and the crew; ideas about the interface to be seen on these glasses are developed in this study. Main purpose is to provide foundation for the preparation of an effective interface layout coping with the obstructions for the sailor
