Abstract

Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the physical activity level and quality of life of patients who developed lymphedema in their lower and upper extremities after breast cancer and gynecological cancer surgery in comparison with healthy controls. The study included 25 women with an average age of 54.92±8.43 years who had lymphedema in their upper extremities after breast cancer surgery, 25 women with an average age of 55.12±8.88 years who had lymphedema in their lower extremities after gynecological cancer surgery, and 25 women with an average age of 54.96±8.73 years in the healthy control group. A total of 75 women were included. Participants' demographic and disease information was collected. Physical activity level was evaluated with the International Physical Activity Survey short form, and quality of life was evaluated with the Lymphedema Quality of Life Questionnaire. There was no difference between the groups in terms of the demographic and disease evaluation of the participants (p > 0.05). There were differences between the groups in physical activity levels, quality of life sub-parameters, and overall quality of life (p<0.05). No relationship was found between physical activity level and quality of life in the groups that developed lymphedema in both the upper and lower extremities (p > 0.05). While the physical activity level of the group with lymphedema in the lower extremities after gynecological cancer surgery was found to be low, the quality of life of the groups with lymphedema in the upper and lower extremities was lower than that of healthy women.
