Kocaeli İlinde Turnuvalara Aktif Katılan Taekwondocuların Ağız Koruyucusu Kullanımı Hakkındaki Farkındalıklarının İncelenmesi

Abstract

Kontakt sporlarıyla ilgilenenlerin dental travmalar ile sık sık karşılaşmaktadırlar. Bu travmalar ile oluşan sert ve yumuşak doku yaralanmaları bireyi hem maddi hem de manevi yönden etkilemektedir. Travmalarda oluşabilecek etkiyi en aza indirmek ve oluşabilecek yaralanmaları önlemek için ağız koruyucularından faydalanılmaktadır. Bu sebeple çalışmada özellikle temaslı sporlarla ilgilenen bireylerin kişisel ve sportif hayatını etkileyebilecek önemde olan bu araştırma konusunda farkındalık yaratmak ve ilimizdeki taekwondocuların kullanımı hakkında bilgi edinmek amacıyla, Kocaeli ilindeki Taekwondocuların ağız koruyucusu kullanımı hakkındaki ayrıntılı bilgileri çeşitli değişkenlere göre belirlemek için tasarlanmıştır. Çalışmaya 24’ü erkek 33’ü ise kadın taekwondoculardan oluşmak üzere toplamda 57 sporcu gönüllü olarak katılım sağlamıştır. Verilerin analizi SPSS 20.0 paket programında istatistiksel olarak analiz edilmiştir. Taekwondocuların sosyo-demografik sorulara ve anket sorularına verdiği cevaplar yüzdelik ve frekans dağılımları bakımından incelenmiştir. Yapılan analizlerin sonucunda ağız koruyucu kullanıyor musunuz sorusuna %73,7 oranında evet yanıtı verildiği, ağız koruyucu tiplerinden en çok custom fabricated (kişiye özel) tiptekilerin tercih edildiği, ağız koruyucuların genellikle sadece müsabaka ortamında kullanıldığı, sporcuların %50’sinin ağız koruyucuları performanslarını olumsuz etkilediği kanısında olduğu, performansını etkilediğini öne süren sporcularun en çok nefes alırken yanıtını verdiği, ağız diş travması yaşadıklarında koruyucu kullanıyor muydunuz sorusuna ise eşit bir biçimde hem evet hem de hayır yanıtları verildiği görülmüştür. Sonuç olarak yapılan araştırmada literature göre taekwondocuların ağız koruyucusu kullanımında daha hassas olduğu ve yaygın biçimde ağız koruyucu kullandıkları belirlenmiş ancak tehlikenin riskinin hemen hemen aynı olduğu antrenman koşullarında henüz kullanımın yaygınlaşmadığı saptanmıştır.

Examining the Awareness of Taekwondo Players Actively Participating in Tournaments in Kocaeli Province About the Use of Mouth Guards

Abstract

Those who are interested in contact sports frequently encounter dental trauma. Hard and soft tissue injuries resulting from these traumas affect the individual both materially and spiritually. Mouth guards are used to minimize the impact of trauma and prevent possible injuries. For this reason, our study was designed to determine detailed information about the use of mouth guards by Taekwondo athletes in Kocaeli, according to various variables, in order to raise awareness about this research, which is important to affect the personal and sports lives of individuals who are especially interested in contact sports, and to obtain information about the use of taekwondo athletes in our city. A total of 57 athletes, 24 male and 33 female taekwondo athletes, participated in the study voluntarily. The analysis of the data was statistically analyzed in the SPSS 20.0 package program. Taekwondo athletes' answers to socio-demographic questions and survey questions were examined in terms of percentage and frequency distributions. As a result of the analysis, 73.7% answered yes to the question "Do you use a mouth guard?"—that"custom-fabricated types of mouth guards are the most preferred, that mouth guards are generally used only in the competitive environment, and that 50% of the athletes have a negative impact on their performance with mouth guards. It has been observed that athletes who believe that it affects their performance mostly answer while breathing, and to the question "Did you use protection when you experienced oral or dental trauma?" the answers were equally yes and no. As a result, in the research conducted, it was determined that, according to the literature, taekwondo players are more sensitive in the use of mouth guards and use mouth guards widely, but their use has not become widespread yet in training conditions where the risk of danger is almost the same.
