Evaluation of Social Sustainability Principles with Place Attachment Parameter: İstanbul Bahçelievler Neighborhood

Abstract

For a healthy and happy life, the user should feel that s/he belongs to the place where s/he lives and should be able to define the natural, physical and social life of the place where s/he lives. It is important for individuals to establish a relationship with the region they live in, to associate themselves and to establish a bond with a place in order to create sustainable environments. The living environment must be able to respond to the social and physical requirements and desires of the individual in order to generate sustainable ecosystems. n the social context, sustainability focuses on the issues of access to facilities and services, social cohesion, participation in social life, and supporting place attachment/ belonging. This study focuses on the neighbourhood while exploring human and environmental issues in the areas where place attachment and social sustainability studies intersect. The aim of this study is to investigate how the sense of attachment to the neighbourhood depends on which environmental and social factors in order to evaluate social sustainability principles in the Istanbul Bahçelievler Merkez neighbourhood. In this research, survey questions determined at the intersection of Bahçelievler Merkez neighbourhood residents and the parameters of place attachment and social sustainability, and observations made by the researcher for the neighbourhood were used as a means of collecting information.

Sosyal Sürdürülebilirlik İlkelerinin Yere Aidiyet Parametresi ile Değerlendirmesi: İstanbul Bahçelievler Merkez Mahallesi

Abstract

Sağlıklı ve mutlu bir yaşam için insan kendisini yaşadığı yere ait hissetmeli, yaşadığı yerin doğal, fiziksel ve sosyal yaşamın bir parçası olarak tanımlayabilmelidir. Bireylerin yaşadıkları bölgeyle ilişki kurması, kendilerini bağdaştırmaları bir mekân ile aralarında bağ kurmaları sürdürülebilir çevreler oluşturmak için önemlidir. Sürdürülebilir çevreler oluşturmak için yaşanılan çevrenin bireyin sosyal ve fiziksel gereksinimine ve isteklerine yanıt verebilmesi gerekir. Sürdürülebilirlik sosyal bağlamda tesislere ve hizmetlere erişim, sosyal uyum, sosyal yaşama katılım, yere bağlılığını (aidiyetini) desteklemesi konularına odaklanmıştır. Bu çalışmada, insan ve çevreyi inceleyen yere bağlılık (aidiyet) ve sosyal sürdürülebilirlik çalışmalarının mahalle odağında kesiştikleri alanlar incelenmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, İstanbul Bahçelievler Merkez Mahallesinde, sosyal sürdürülebilirlik ilkelerinin değerlendirilmesi için mahalleye duyulan bağlılık (aidiyet) duygusunun hangi çevresel ve sosyal etmenlere (faktörlere) ne kadar bağlı olduğunu araştırmaktır. Bu araştırmada Bahçelievler Merkez Mahallesi için yere bağlılık-aidiyet ve sosyal sürdürülebilirlik ölçütlerinin (parametrelerinin) kesişiminde belirlenmiş anket soruları, derinlemesine görüşme ve araştırma alanının tarihsel ve güncel durum analizi veri toplama yöntemi olarak kullanılmıştır.
