Trends in Textile Design from Past to Present and Future Approach

Year 2024, Volume: 5 Issue: 9, 235 - 249, 30.12.2024

Abstract

In this article, the transformations in textile design from the past to the present are examined, and it aims to evaluate the development and future orientations of the sector through a historical perspective. The effects of technological innovations, social changes and sustainability-oriented approaches on textile design from ancient civilisations to today are discussed. In this article, many topics from the evolution of weaving techniques to the use of synthetic fibres, from the development of smart textiles to the widespread use of 3D printing technology are examined, and how textile design is affected by these processes is evaluated. While the roots of textile design date back to ancient civilisations, innovations such as weaving techniques and the use of natural dyes have come to the fore in this process. The Industrial Revolution in the 18th and 19th centuries led to revolutionary changes in the textile industry, increasing production capacity and paving the way for the birth of fashion. In the 20th century, the discovery of synthetic fibres changed the course of the dynamics of design. Today, textile design is shaped by sustainability and technology-oriented approaches. Innovative methods such as the use of sustainable materials, the integration of smart textiles and 3D printing technology have an important place in the industry. In the future, it is expected that personalised production processes will gain momentum with the further adoption of artificial intelligence and automation. In conclusion, textile design offers both aesthetic and functional expression by combining historical heritage and modern innovations. Supporting R&D processes with a design-centred approach will deepen sustainability and innovation. The trends mentioned in the article provide important clues about how textile design will be shaped in the future.

Tekstil Tasarımında Dünden Bugüne Dönüşen Trendler ve Gelecek Yaklaşımı

Year 2024, Volume: 5 Issue: 9, 235 - 249, 30.12.2024
