Year 2024, Volume: 4 Issue: 1, 107 - 120, 12.07.2024

Abstract

The Meaning of Art

Year 2024, Volume: 4 Issue: 1, 107 - 120, 12.07.2024
https://doi.org/10.56590/stdarticle.1372969

Abstract

The Purpose of the Study: In this article, an interpretation is brought to the question of what the meaning of art is.
Literature Review/Background: The study aims to contribute to the existing dialogue on what kind of shape art should take for the benefit of societies in today's world where art has many dead ends. It aims to do this by trying to make an original contribution to the voices of more traditional approaches that have been lost in the process that started with modernism and continued with postmodernism.
Method: The article makes use of a research based on document analysis and within this framework, the thoughts of selected philosophers on aesthetics from Ancient Greece to the present day are included.
Results: By synthesising the thoughts of selected philosophers from Ancient Greece to the present day, the idea that art can be a source of inspiration in people’s journeys in search of the good by taking them away from the chaos of life is addressed. Within the framework of ethics, it is mentioned that art that is beautiful and intellectually oriented towards ethics can nourish people's desire to create a better being than themselves by creating a desire to emulate beauty.
Conclusion: It is concluded that people who seek and live the good can also want the good for others, thus contributing to the good of societies and helping to create a more livable world for everyone.
