Classical wastewater treatment processes are not effective enough in removal of the phosphate. For this reason, biological and chemical phosphate removal systems are developed. However, every system cannot give the same output in removing phosphate from the wastewater. In this study, chemical precipitation method was used to remove the phosphate from the wastewater. Aluminium sulphate, ferrous sulphate and lime were used in the jar test as the coagulants. Each coagulant was used in different doses and at the different pH values of the wastewater. Thus, the coagulants performance in removal of the phosphate was compared. Konya Başarakavak Treatment Unit influent water was used in the research. About 76 % orthophosphate and 38 % total phosphate removals were obtained using 86.4 mg/L of ferrous sulphate at pH 9 and 73 % orthophosphate and 31 % total phosphate removals were obtained by precipitating 84.8 mg/L of aluminium sulphate at pH 8. Up to 100 % phosphate removal was found with application of right pH and polyelectrolit dose.
