In this study, the ultraviolet-visible region spectra of 1,4- benzoquinone, 2-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone and tetramethyl-1,4-benzoquinone have been studied experimentally in different solvents and concentration under the condition of Beer-Lambert concentration. The electronic transitions of organic compounds in the range of ultraviolet-visible region and the parameters that affects those transitions were studied in detail. The spectral shifts that seen on the spectra were explained on the basis of the dielectric constants of the solvents. The effects on the absorption spectra of metil substitution and intramolecular hydrogen bonding to the parent molecule have been interpreted.
