Sideritis hololeuca Boiss. & Heldr. apud Bentham ve Sideritis libanotica Labill. subsp. violascens (P.H.Davis) P.H.Davis Ekstrelerinin Antibakteriyel Aktivitelerinin Belirlenmesi

Year 2009, Volume: 2 Issue: 33, 29 - 36, 01.12.2009

Abstract

Determination of Antibacterial Activities of Sideritis hololeuca Boiss. & Heldr. apud Bentham and Sideritis libanotica subsp. violascens (P.H.Davis) P.H.Davis Extracts

Year 2009, Volume: 2 Issue: 33, 29 - 36, 01.12.2009

Abstract

The antibacterial activity of the chloroform, acetone and ethanol extracts obtained from the aerial parts of Sideritis hololeuca Boiss.&Heldr. apud Bentham and Sideritis libanotica subsp. violascens (P.H.Davis) P.H.Davis (endemic species) were investigated using the disc diffusion method against 14 different bacteria [8 Gram positive (Bacillus cereus ATCC 14579, Bacillus subtilis B RSHMB, Listeria monocytogenes tip 2 NCTC 5348, Micrococcus luteus LA 2971, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29740, Streptococcus mutans NCTC 10449, Streptococcus pneumoniae ATCC 6305 and Streptococcus pyogenes ATCC 19615) and 6 Gram negative (Escherichia coli ATCC 35218, Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 10031, Proteus mirabilis ATCC 15146, Proteus vulgaris ATCC 7829, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 15442 and Salmonella enteritidis RSHMB)]. By the results of the study it was determined that no extracts showed any antibacterial activities against the bacteriae Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella enteritidis, while at least one of the extracts which showed antibacterial activity weakly was found to be effective against others of the bacteriae tested.
