Islam forbids all kinds of extramarital sexual
intercourse except for those based on legitimate marriage – including sodomy –,
considers such illegitimate acts as sinful, and imposes deterrent penalties.
Sodomy was also regarded as an offense in Ottoman law,
which prescribed and administered tazir punishment for such offenses in
accordance with the views of Abu Hanifa.
