Abstract

This study examines the Roman Provincial coins of Olbasa in Pisidia, which was one of the Roman colonies in the region. Within the scope of the study, firstly, a brief history of the city and the research conducted in the city is provided. Thereafter, the coin production of the city, die study and die sharing, the denominations and reverse types, and the cults in the city pantheon are evaluated in the context of the catalogue, which includes all the coins of the city that have survived to the present day and consists of examples in museum collections and auction sales catalogues. Olbasa, founded in the Hellenistic Period but did not strike coins during this period. It is believed that following its establishment as a Roman colony in 6 BC, it started to strike coins during the reign of Antoninus Pius (138-161 AD), continued to strike coins albeit with interruptions, and ended the coinage during the reign of Trebonianus Gallus (251-253 AD). Coins of Olbasa represented by 162 specimens in the catalogue, consist of 19 series. The obverses of 18 series feature the busts of emperor/empress and caesars, while one features the depiction of Genius. The reverses of the coins feature 19 different types. Among these types, which have Roman (colonial), Hellenic and local characters. Aphrodite and Men, who clearly had a special place in the pantheon of the city. The coins were produced using 30 obverse and 39 reverse dies, and five different denominations were identified for this series.
