The Journal of the Institute of Social Sciences of Siirt University serves as an academic forum for the publication of original and high-quality research. Authors submitting manuscripts are expected to uphold the values of academic integrity and adhere to the ethical and editorial standards described below. This guideline outlines key responsibilities, ethical expectations, and procedural requirements that authors must observe during manuscript preparation and submission.
Author Responsibilities
Authorship and Contributions
Authorship should be restricted to individuals who have made a substantive contribution to the research—whether in developing the concept, designing the methodology, conducting the study, or analyzing and interpreting the findings. Individuals whose involvement was limited—for instance, to language editing or proofreading—should not be listed as authors but may be acknowledged in the appropriate section.
Corresponding Author’s Role: The corresponding author bears the responsibility of confirming that all listed co-authors have reviewed the final version of the manuscript and have consented to its submission.
Order and List of Authors: Prior to submission, authors are expected to review and confirm the sequence and names of all contributors. Once submitted, the author list is considered final. Any subsequent requests for addition, removal, or reordering of authors will only be evaluated under exceptional circumstances and must receive editorial approval.
Collective Accountability: All authors share responsibility for the integrity, accuracy, and clarity of the manuscript. This joint accountability reinforces the transparency of the scholarly process.
Requests for Authorship Changes
Proposals to modify authorship—whether by adding, removing, or reordering contributors—must be submitted before the article has been accepted. These requests must be accompanied by:
(a) a written justification for the change from the corresponding author, and
(b) written consent (typically via email) from all authors acknowledging and agreeing to the proposed modification.
Post-Acceptance Changes:
Any alterations to authorship after the manuscript has been accepted for publication will only be considered in rare and justified cases, and are subject to the editor’s final decision.
Manuscript Preparation
• Originality and Integrity: Authors are expected to submit manuscripts that reflect original scholarship and maintain a balanced, evidence-based approach in their analysis. Submissions must be distinct from previously published work and should include sufficient methodological detail to allow for replication. The inclusion of fabricated data or intentionally misleading content constitutes a serious breach of ethical conduct and will lead to the immediate rejection of the manuscript.
• Originality Assurance: Authors must confirm that the submitted manuscript is original and has not been published elsewhere. If the manuscript is under consideration by another journal or is published in another language, this must be disclosed and approved by the editor.
• Citations and Use of Sources: Authors should use only original content. When using the ideas, data, or words of others, appropriate citation and referencing are mandatory.
• Confidential Information: Authors should not use privileged information such as private communications or unpublished data without the explicit written consent of the source.
• Quotations: When citing other works, proper citation must be given in accordance with referencing guidelines.
Data Access and Retention
Authors are required to comply with the journal’s open data policy and must provide the data that supports their findings. Where possible, data should be made openly accessible and securely preserved for a defined period after publication.
Multiple and Simultaneous Submissions
Authors must not submit the same research to more than one journal simultaneously. Duplicate submission is considered unethical and unacceptable.
• Abstract Publications: If a version of the research has been published in abstract form, the previous publication must be disclosed.
• Republication: Previously published work may only be used with proper citation and must not be resubmitted to another journal without permission.
Surveys and Interviews
For studies requiring ethics committee approval (e.g., involving surveys or interviews), authors must obtain such approval and clearly state this in the manuscript and at the beginning of the article.
Conflict of Interest
Authors must disclose any financial support, sponsorships, consultancy arrangements, or other potential conflicts of interest as early as possible.
• Declaration: Potential conflicts of interest must be disclosed prior to submission. Failure to do so may violate the journal's principle of scientific transparency.
Error Reporting
If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, they are obligated to inform the journal immediately. In such cases, the article may be corrected or retracted as appropriate.
• Collaboration: Authors are expected to cooperate with the editor in the correction or retraction process.
Image Integrity
Authors must ensure that all images and graphics are presented accurately. Any manipulation—such as altering, obscuring, moving, or adding to images—is considered unethical.
• Permissible Adjustments: Visual adjustments should be limited to enhancing clarity and must not misrepresent the original content.
